Cannabidiol (CBD) is a highly potent natural substance whose manifold effects have already been proven in countless studies. CBD also promises to be the substance of the future in sports due to its strong anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, anxiolytic and pain-relieving properties.

Until 2017, all cannabis was on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Anti-Doping List. When it became known last autumn that cannabidiol was the only cannabiniod to be removed from said  list on 1 January 2018, we and our partner, the Botanic Matters Group, were the first company to take advantage of the opportunity to use CBD in competitive sports.

However, the requirements are complex. In a market that is currently more or less unregulated, it is important to find safe standards for athletes. The top priority for athletes tested for doping is to develop a product that is THC-free and thus complies with the WADA code.

In the current version of the "Prohibited List" (link), the World Anti-Doping Agency WADA describes the current legal situation: "Cannabidiol is no longer prohibited. Synthetic cannabidiol is not a cannabimimetic; however, cannabidiol extracted from cannabis plants may also contain varying concentrations of THC, which remains a prohibited substance".

Exactly here was the challenge in the development of CANNASPORT cbd2c system. Up to 1%  (Switzerland) and up to 0.3% (Austria) THC may be legally contained in commercially available CBD products from the cannabis plant. Here, the risk for athletes is to exceed the doping-relevant limit value is clearly too high.

After 12 months of intensive development, we have succeeded in creating a CBD product that is THC-free (<0.00%). This begins with the strictest quality standards in the selection of plants (cultivation exclusively within the European Union). A special manufacturing process enables us to filter out all undesired substances from the extract and thus achieve a product that is clean for the athlete without THC. Of course, cbd2c system does not contain any other prohibited substances. The cannabinoid content of the extract or the end product is checked during each individual production process.

Ethical standards

In addition to our quality standards in manufacturing, CANNASPORT has also set itself high ethical standards. In the knowledge of the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of CBD, it is important for us to have a thoughtful approach to it. CANNASPORT rejects the use of painkillers of any kind in competition. Pain is a warning signal from the body and should not be ignored. Therefore CANNASPORT products should not be used to reduce injury or muscle pain during training and competition. Also CANNASPORT does not recommend the use of our products for these purposes.
